About Bilit Rainforest Lodge

Situated on the river bank of Lower Kinabatangan River, approximately 2 hours drive from Sandakan Town, the lodge is built on stilts from local hardwood materials and are beautifully designed to blend into nature giving a unique local native ambience in the midst of the tropical rainforest. A boardwalk connects the jetty, restaurant and all the chalets. It offers comfort and peaceful relaxation as well as a base for exploration of the incredible diversity of plant, mammal and bird life at the Kinabatangan region.

Birdlife is especially rich here including eight species of hornbills, kingfishers, egrets, darters, owls, kites, eagles, broadbills, doves, storm storks, herons, hawks, ospreys, falcon, pheasants, parakeets, bee eaters, woodpeckers, pittas, bulbuls, forktails, babblers, warblers, flycatchers, orioles, flowerpeckers, spiderhunters, among others.

A chance to get close with the wildlife of Borneo here including the endemic Borneon pygmy elephant, endemic proboscis monkeys, gibbons, macaques, orang utans, Sumatran rhinos, estuarine crocodiles, wild boars, sun bears and many others.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1
Sepilok Nature Resort

Pick up from Sandakan airport/hotel and transfer to Sepilok Nature Resort. Check in to the rustic lodge, and you are free on your own for the rest of the day.

Overnight Sepilok Nature Resort.
DAY 2
Gomantong Cave/ Sukau/ Kinabatangan River Cruise

First up, explore the intricate chamber system of Gomantong Cave, located within the Gomantong Forest Reserve. It is the largest bird’s nest cave in Sabah, home to millions of bats and swiflets. Hop on a boat and cruise down the river heading to your next overnight destination, Sukau Bilit Rainforest Lodge. After settling in, the real adventure starts. A river cruise awaits you, where you can spot endemic Proboscis Monkeys, wild Orang Utans, leaf monkeys, gibbons and macaque, even the rare Borneo Pygmy Elephant.

At 1900hrs, dinner at the lodge restaurant. After dinner, you can go for a complimentary night safari cruise where you can spot nocturnal animals, crocodiles and birds.

DAY 3
Oxbow Lake

Wake up to the call of Gibbons and Hornbills at 6am. Relish in an early morning cruise on the Ox-bow Lake for some bird-watching and tranquil moments amidst the lush wilderness. You will return back to your forest lodge in the late morning for lunch and leisure time on your own. More wildlife spotting in the evening bat the Sukau Kinabatangan River Bank. Or go trekking instead.

DAY 4
Sepilok Orang Utan Centre/ City Tour/ (Flight) Kota Kinabalu

After breakfast, check out and proceed to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre (2.5hrs journey) situated in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. To learn more about their Orang Utan rehabilitation mission and vision, we insist you watch a short documentary at the Nature Education Centre. Feeding time! Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden plank walks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 10:00hrs.

Transfer to Rainforest Discovery Centre for an intimate look at the unique and exciting Borneo’s Rainforests. Visit the exhibition halls, stroll through the Plant Discovery garden, and explore the Nature Experience program.
Transfer to Sandakan Airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu (ETD 1810hrs / 1900hrs).

Upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu, transfer to Sutera Harbour Resort - Pacific Sutera for check in.

DAY 5

When the sun goes down & the city begins to light up, Kota Kinabalu takes on a whole new look. This sunset experience out at sea adds a whole new dimension to the beauty that envelopes the already charming laid-back town. Besides, whoever said that sunsets are only enjoyable from a beach hasn’t seen it from our side!

Hop onto our spacious custom-built catamaran and get in touch with Sabah’s coastal charisma as you sail into the famous Kota Kinabalu sunset, departing from Sutera Harbor Marina Club Jetty.

Come as you are, sandals or shorts, this is a casual & relaxed affair. Cruise past the enchanting Tunku Abdul Rahman Islands that dot the South China Sea, indulge in outstanding ocean vistas from our sun-deck & delight in tasty tropical treats, including both alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages, Coffee or Tea.

This guided-tour includes brief narrations of the Historical, Cultural and Architectural splendors of Sabah as you glide along Gaya Island Water Village, the rocky outcrops of Likas Bay and the whole stretch of Kota Kinabalu City’s Waterfront, all in the warm glow of twilight.

Departs Kota Kinabalu (Or Extend Tour)

Time to say goodbye to the wild side of the world! Upon check out, transfer to the airport and take your flight out from Sabah.
