Route: Kuala Lumpur – Jerantut – Kuala Tahan

Taman Negara is about 240 km from Kuala Lumpur City Center, and estimated  3 hr 30 min driving. It is connected with East Coast Highway from Kuala Lumpur to Temerloh exit. Then the federal road connects from Temerloh to Jerantut followed by from Jerantut to Kuala Tahan, Taman Negara. Along this route, there a few services areas that you stop for short break, food, toilet, and refuel your car.

Route 1: Kuala Lumpur City Centre – Gombak Toll Plaza – Temerloh Toll Plaza Outbound

From city center drive heading toward Gombak Toll Plaza. At the toll booth, pay RM5.00 and start driving on the East Coast  Highway. On your first part  of this driving, you will drive through Banjaran Titiwangsa (Titiwangsa Range). It is about 60 km until your exit at Bentong Toll Plaza (RM3.00 toll fee).

On your way, just check your direction on signboards to Temerloh. There is no Taman Negara on the signboards  until you passed by the Exit 816 (Lancang). Be alert once you see the Taman Negara on the signboard because you are going to exit the highway via Temerloh Toll Plaza Outbound soon.

Along this route, you can stop for break, food, refuel, toilet, etc. at a few services area as shown below: –

Genting Sempah – 24 km from Gombak Toll Plaza (food, surau, petrol pump, toilet & ATM)

Bukit Tinggi          –  35 km from Gombak Toll Plaza (food & petrol pump)

Bentong R&R       –  53 km from Gombak Toll Plaza (food, surau, petrol pump, toilet & ATM)

Lancang R&R       –  80 km from Gombak Toll Plaza (food & snacks)

After 1 hr – 1 hr 30 min bus ride, you will reach Kuala Tahan, Taman Negara bus stop. The bus stop is located at the central part of Kampung Kuala Tahan. Most of the resorts, guest house, chalets and hostels in Kuala Tahan are located within your working distance from the bus stop. A few, need a boat ride to reach the resorts. Check your resort exact location before arrival.

Route 2: Temerloh Toll Plaza – Jerantut

After driving about 114 km from Gombak Toll Plaza, you need to exit at Temerloh Toll Plaza Outbound. Once exit, you can immediately see the direction to Taman Negara on the signboard. Drive another 51 km or estimated 40 minutes heading to Jerantut.

Along this way, you will pass by many villages and small towns. You may stop if you need a short break or some food or need to go toilet or buy local products, etc. During fruits season, you can see many stalls selling local fruits such as durian, rambutan, mangoesteen, duku, langsat etc.

Route 3: Jerantut to Kuala Tahan

Jerantut is well known with special local delicacies of freshwater fish from Sungai Pahang. Take the opportunity to taste the local traditional food  at Jerantut town which is popular with Ikan Pantin Tempoyak and Baung Kenderak. Refuel your car, make sure it is in good conditions  and bring enough cash before continuing your journey. Please take note, there is no petrol pump, workshop and ATM in Kuala Tahan.

From Jerantut drive another 68 km or estimated 1 hr 15 min to Taman Negara, Kuala Tahan. On the route, you are passing by jungle, oil palm plantation, FELDA settlements, and small traditional villages.

Special local Delicacies – Freshwater fish from Sungai Pahang

The most popular freshwater fish in Jerantut – Ikan Baung Kenderak and Ikan Patin. Eat with ulam & sambal tempoyak.

It is easy to get to Taman Negara from Jerantut town. Just pay attention to many signboards on the route and follow the directions. The highlighted in brown “Taman Negara” makes it very noticeable.

You are going to drive on narrower road once you make a turn to Padang Piol/Taman Negara junction.  Drive carefully on this route, it is about 56 km to Taman Negara or 54 km to Kuala Tahan. Once you reach there, park your car either at the public gated car park in Kuala Tahan or within your stay resort compound.
