About Sukau Bilit Rainforest Lodge

Situated on the river bank of Lower Kinabatangan River, approximately 2 hours drive from Sandakan Town, the lodge is built on stilts from local hardwood materials and are beautifully designed to blend into nature giving a unique local native ambience in the midst of the tropical rainforest. A boardwalk connects the jetty, restaurant and all the chalets. It offers comfort and peaceful relaxation as well as a base for exploration of the incredible diversity of plant, mammal and bird life at the Kinabatangan region.

Birdlife is especially rich here including eight species of hornbills, kingfishers, egrets, darters, owls, kites, eagles, broadbills, doves, storm storks, herons, hawks, ospreys, falcon, pheasants, parakeets, bee eaters, woodpeckers, pittas, bulbuls, forktails, babblers, warblers, flycatchers, orioles, flowerpeckers, spiderhunters, among others.

A chance to get close with the wildlife of Borneo here including the endemic Borneon pygmy elephant, endemic proboscis monkeys, gibbons, macaques, orang utans, Sumatran rhinos, estuarine crocodiles, wild boars, sun bears and many others.

Day 1
KOTA KINABALU - MARI MARI CULTURAL VILLAGE

Kopivosian! Welcome to Kota Kinabalu! On arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, you will be transferred to your tour hotel by our airport shuttle. The timing will be based on your flight arrival time. This afternoon is yours to relax and settle in. Later, meet our representative and fellow passengers for a short briefing about the tour expectations. Teleport back to the ancient time of Borneo through the magical display of unique ingenious architecture, simulated lives and ritualistic ceremonies. You will be ushered in to the warmth of different homes of the ethnicities of Sabah to get acquainted with each village tribe and experience their rich culture as if they were alive! Sample Sabahan traditional delicacies from each ethnic group such as the Montoku (rice wine) and witness bamboo cooking. Have fun and enjoy the cultural show performance by the tribes before proceeding for a delectable traditional dinner.
DAY 2
TAMPARULI TOWN - NABALU - KINABALU NATIONAL PARK - PORING HOT SPRING - KINABALU NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, check-out from the hotel and take a leisurely drive through scenic countryside and across mountainous Crocker Range to Tamparuli Town. Visit Historical Wooden Shop houses of olden days and walk across the “Jambatan Tamparuli”, a suspension bridge which is the famous landmark in that small town to get a feel of kampong lifestyle. Thereafter, continue journey to Kinabalu National Park Headquaters, Malaysia's first World Heritage Site that offers mega bio-diversity of flora and fauna, a paradise for nature enthusiasts. Along the way, take a brief stop at Nabalu, a place where the local natives gather to sell local produce, fruits, home grown vegetables and handicraft souvenirs. On arrival at Kinabalu Park, you will notice the drop in air temperature. Enjoy the refreshing and cooling air as you proceed for a walk along the nature trails in the Botanical Garden. Visit the Exhibition Hall and then proceed to the view point for a panoramic view of the surrounding lush landscape and Mount Kinabalu, rising majestically into the sky at 4095m, which often shrouded in mists and clouds. After lunch, rejuvenate your body and mind at the Poring Hot Springs, a natural health spa where you can relax in open-air Japanese-style hot sulphuric water tubs set amidst a tropical rainforest setting. There are few private huts for rental, where you can enjoy your private bath. For a close look at nature, take to the 41m high Canopy Walkway which offers spectacular views of the lush Borneo Rainforest. After a relaxing soak, transfer back to Kinabalu Park and check into your accommodation. You are free to explore the park at leisure.
DAY 3
KINABALU NATIONAL PARK - SANDAKAN - SUKAU BILIT

Wake up as early to appreciate the imposing beauty of Mount Kinabalu before your very eyes as it is slowly surrounded by the clouds. After breakfast, check out and overland transfer to Sandakan. Journey to Sukau will passed by oil palm plantations and rustic countryside studded with villages. Arrive at Kampung Bilit, Sukau jetty. Take a short boat transfer to Sukau Bilit Rainforest Lodge. Time for orientation briefing, a welcome drink and check in. Lunch will be provided in the lodge restaurant. In late afternoon, take a river cruise in search of endemic proboscis monkeys, different species of birds & other wildlife along the river bank. One may also catch a glimpse of a wild Orang Utan, leaf monkeys, gibbons, macaques or the newly discovered “Borneon Pgymy Elephants”. Return for hot shower and buffet dinner. After dinner, you can go for an optional night safari cruise (at a surcharge) where you can spot nocturnal animals, crocodiles and birds.
DAY 4
KINABATANGAN RIVER OX-BOW LAKE CRUISE

Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills at 6am. A morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River Ox-Bow Lake for bird watching. Experience the wilderness of Borneo. Cruise back for late breakfast. Free at leisure. Afternoon lunch will be served at Sukau Bilit Rainforest Lodge restaurant. At 1600hrs, take another river cruise in the late afternoon to see more wildlife along the Sukau Kinabatangan River Bank.
(You may have the option to include Jungle-Trekking at Ox-Bow Lake at an additional fee of MYR 80 per person and advance booking is required.)
DAY 5
GOMANTONG CAVE - SEPILOK ORANG UTAN REHAB - SANDAKAN KOTA KINABALU

Early morning, check-out and depart for Gomantong cave located within the Gomantong forest reserve. Upon arrival, short walk on the plank walk to the cave. Explore the largest bird's nest cave in Sabah, home to millions of bats and swiflets. The nests of the swiflets are collected for the famous Chinese edible bird nest soup. Lunch in Sandakan city. Proceed to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre situated in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve for video show. Visit the Nature Education Centre and watch the video documentary show to learn about the rehabilitation of orphaned orang utan before taking a boardwalk through the lowland rainforest to view the feeding platform. Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden plank walks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 2pm. After tour, transfer to Sandakan Airport for your flight back to Kota Kinabalu. Check in hotel.

DAY 6
FUN BOAT SNORKELING & ISLAND VISIT

After breakfast, pick up from hotel lobby and depart to jetty for a day in the sun!
Upon arrival at the jetty, hop on to the boat and you will be whisked off for a 20 minutes ride to the first snorkeling point at the cluster of Islands that make up Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. Commence your Snorkeling boat session, accompanied by our experienced Dive Master.
Proceed to the next Snorkeling point, for a chance to spot more exotic sea life in the beautiful Marine park. Spend a designated time snorkeling.
All the fun and relaxation will work up an appetite.Upon completion of the second snorkeling session, transfer to Gaya island for lunch. Thereafter, free and easy to relax on golden shores, bask in the sunshine to earn that suntan or explore the short forest trail on your own. If you haven’t got enough of the life in the deep blue sea, snorkel from the shores to say hello to the colorful parade of fishes that reign the underwater world. For those who love an adrenaline rush, jump on the flying fox and zipline between two islands!
In the mid afternoon, pack up and take the boat transfer back to mainland, and drop off back at the hotel.
DAY 7
DEPARTS KOTA KINABALU (OR EXTEND TOUR)

Sadly your tour comes to an end after breakfast. Bid farewell to Kota Kinabalu as you will be transfer to Kota Kinabalu International Airport for your flight back to your next destination. The timing will be based on your flight departure time.
